During each Sip Series gathering, guests sit down and learn from incredible women that have made their mark on the South. our first Sip Series, we heard from Mariah Walton Bencik. We asked Katy Richardson, a fellow entrepreneur, to share what she learned from this wonderful event.

What did you sip on during the weekend?

I loved that the series opened with a champagne toast by the fire!

What was your biggest takeaway?

It’s always nice to hear another entrepreneur’s story and Mariah affirmed that no matter what business you’re in, it’s all about relationships. My business has a retail component and to hear her philosophy on treating retail as a service really changed the way I will operate that component going forward.

What stories did Mariah share?

Mariah shared so much with us about how she got started and where she is today, including highs and lows. She was honest and did not sugar coat her struggles, but also celebrated her wins. It was a great conversation with interaction and questions from the entire group. I learned so much from her! I even read her book from cover to cover later that afternoon on a flight.
